BKFA Open Championships
Sunday 17th June - Derby
Competitors from as far afield as Kinross-shire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and the Midlands converged on Derby for the city’s third BKFA Open Championship on Sunday (June 17).
‘Trading up’ was the order of the day, with 12 fighters entering classes above their own categories.
Having finished her over-5 foot pee wee class, Natalie Weber entered the ladies’ competition, pushing her opponent to a ‘sudden death’ situation before finally finishing fourth.
And Stephen Babb, who finished third in the over-5 foot pee wee class, put on an outstanding display to take the senior under-75kgs competition.
Not content with taking the intermediate under-75kgs title, Richard Wooton went straight on to take second place in the senior under-75kgs competition then, barely drawing breath, took part in the winning Corby ‘A’ team.
Among the students of kung fu and kick boxing were two representatives from Sutton Bonnington Tae Kwon Do club, who both entered the intermediate category as well as treating the audience to demonstrations in the set competition.
Organiser Rajko Dokic was delighted the event had run so smoothly and thanked students and BKFA officials for their help on the day.
